One of the greatest wonders of Indonesia! Meet the sunrise on a volcano and visit the largest acid lake in the…
A memorable journey to Kelimutu volcano on the island of Flores in Indonesia.
The volcano is known for its three-colored crater lakes that change color depending on the season and volcanic activity. There is also a fascinating local legend explaining the origin of this remarkable phenomenon.
The legend tells of three souls living in the craters. According to it, each lake represents the deceased: Lake Ti, often red or brown, is associated with warlike people; green or dark green Lake Mbutu with the young; and Lake Tua Ti, with white or blue colors, with the elderly.
The legend also says that colors change depending on the mood of the souls: when they are happy, the lakes appear bright and beautiful, but when they are sad or disappointed, the colors grow dull or even gloomy.
This legend is an integral part of Indonesian cultural heritage, cherished by the people of this region. The magnificent natural phenomenon of Kelimutu volcano, along with its legend, draws tourists and researchers from around the world.
